When on 25th April the first troops had climbed Plugge's Plateau, they discovered that the only way further inland consisted of a razor-sharp connection with what was to become Russell's Top. Without much hesitation they ran over it, although the top of it was -and still is- hardly wider than some 20 inches. As a result of the protection it offered, the deep gully behind it with the many terraces became Reserve Gully. |
