The part of the west coast where the Anzac landing was intended. At the extreme left is the tip of Ari Burnu, with Anzac Cove to its right (up to the darker vegetation) and Plugge's Plateau above it. The shallow nick in the skyline is the beginning of Shrapnel Vally. In the middle of the picture is the relatively flat 400 Plateau and at the right hand side Gaba Tepe jutting out into the sea. The dark picture shows the amount of light as it must have been in the morning of 25th April at 4.30 a.m when the landing boats were towed to the beach. |
