When to the sessions of
sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past, I sigh
the lack of many a thing I sought, And with old woes new wail my dear
time's waste: Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow, For precious
friends hid in death's dateless night, And weep afresh love's long
since cancell'd woe, And moan the expense of many a vanish'd
sight: Then can I grieve at grievances foregone, And heavily from
woe to woe tell o'er The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan, Which I
new pay as if not paid before. But if the while I think on thee, dear
friend, All losses are restored and sorrows
end.

This website’s founder,
content manager, researcher, photographer, designer - in short, the
person responsible for everything on the website - Julien Snelders,
died in July 2006.
Jul researched the Gallipoli Campaign for
20 years and was one of the best-known military historians and
battlefield experts on this subject. His first-hand and personally
collected materials, including photographs and carefully constructed
maps comprised a wealth of knowledge nurturing those thirsty for
such information about Gallipoli. His love and respect for Gallipoli
were based on protecting the historical, geographical and natural
fabric of these unique battlefields. It was founded on keeping alive
the memories of Turkish and Allied soldiers; every Mehmet, Digger,
Tommy, Abdul and Poilu that fought on this soil.
Each time
Jul returned to Gallipoli, he would rejoice as if he were coming
home. Working, walking and talking with him on the historical
battlefields was a privilege, a unique journey through
time.
We are committed to keeping Jul’s name and sprit alive
through this website.
