DESIGN OBJECTIVES
Conceived, engineered and constructed for serious offshore passage-making and extended living aboard, the Offshore Explorer 4750 was engineered by Chuck Paine to meet specific design objectives:

SIZE
Large enough to take you anywhere in the world in comfort and safety, and small enough to be handled easily by a couple in their later years. With a mast height permitting 63' bridge clearances, passages along the Intercoastal Waterway are no problem. An overall length of less than 50' allows for inexpensive docking in small, secluded marinas.

SPEED
Sufficient waterline length, generous sail area, and a slippery hull form combine to provide consistent 9-knot sailing speeds while reaching.

POWERING RANGE
High-capacity tankage and an efficient propulsion system provide a reliable 1400 nautical mile motoring range at a constant 8 knots.

AESTHETICS
Conservative in profile, with classic overhangs, modern hull form and traditional interior to reflect the superior taste and values while using contemporary materials.

HULL FORM
Hull form reflects the influence of current world cruiser design trends: long waterline length, short overhangs and low center of gravity - without extremes and with a 14'4" beam. Accommodate a 9000 lbs. payload without compromising performance.

SAFETY AND RELIABILITY
A serious long-range cruiser that is seaworthy, great structural integrity and a limit of positive stability at 125 degrees, meant to withstand the realities of Force 12 ocean environments. Remarkable ease of sail handling. Redundancy of key equipment to provide superior reliability and lower maintenance costs.

MAINTENANCE
All systems accessiible for ease of routine maintenance chores.

COMFORT AND LIVABILITY
A comfortable and hospitable interior and cockpit that show an awareness of sailing as only one part of real cruising life. Designed and built with the capacity to accommodate modern, high-tech appliances often added in the future to increase the luxury and convenience of extended living aboard.

ALL-SEASON ENJOYMENT
All weather, all-season optional interior helm station in a low-profile, raised saloon. Pre-configured for heating and cooling air conditioning syestems.

CRUISING AREA
Sufficiently shallow draft at 5'9" to allow for extensive cruising in the Bahamas and gunkholing in the Chesapeake while fully loaded with 9,000 lbs. of fluids, equipment, personal goods

ABOUT CHUCK PAINE

Chuck Paine is arguably the premier yacht designer in North America. His studio in Camden, Maine has been active in yacht design for over 25 years. The highly skilled design team specializes in two types of sailing yachts, both aimed at long-distance, offshore voyaging.

First is a line of traditionally styled, classically conservative "New England Style" cruisers built for such yards as Morris Yachts, Able Marine and Rival/Bowman Yachts in the UK.

More recently, Paine has devoted his expertise to the development of a series of long-waterline, light-displacement, bulb-keel world cruisers whose aesthetics are derived from pure function rather than the history books. Highly regarded and sought after by buyers of custom-designed yachts, he calls these his "Bermuda Series."

The Explorer 4750 is the ninth design in this series of sailboats which have ranged from 45 to 65 feet in length. All Bermuda Series yachts are engineered for easy handling by a couple of mature years and modest physical ability, yet they are capable of stimulating speeds in the open ocean.

Over the last decade, Paine designs have figured prominently among the most highly acclaimed yacht designs world-wide, including earning annual awards in 1990, 1994, 1995 and 1999 for Sailing/Cruising World "Boat of the Year" in several categories.
