Sunscape July 17, 2001, Gentse feesten @ St.-Jacobs.

This was the first gig in the new line up. A big stage, a large audience, but not a trace of any nervousness amongst the groupmembers. They got the party going straight away.

The band played a mix of new and old material, the latter being completely adapted to suit the vocals of Phlippo. The instumental aspect had almost completely dissapeared. De songs had new arrangements, and were slightly more uptempo.

The rhymes and the person of Phlippo, the new frontman of the band, were surprisingly fresh and original. Hans, who plays the trumpet, also brought in the right accents. The music has become more rootsy, and comes closer to Jamaican reggae (the boys used to be more influenced by the English dubscene). Even some bluesy flavours were heard e.g. during the song Desperado.

There was a lot of movement on the stage and in the crowd. Phlippo knows how to communicate with the audience. He was dancing enthousiasticly to his own rhymes. The other bandmembers also clearly had fun. Sunscape went to a metamorphosis, and it is to be expected that we'll hear more from them soon

The show in Ghent was completely filmed by Canvas television, and was broadcasted in a program called Plankenkoorts, on saturday July 28. You are listening to an excerpt of that show.
